Fur Production Has Plummeted by 85% Over the Past Decade

Global fur production has declined dramatically in the last ten years, shrinking by approximately 85%. This follows a recent year-over-year drop of nearly 40%, marking a continuous downward trend spanning the decade.

Several factors have driven this massive reduction, including shifting public attitudes toward animal welfare, widespread bans in major markets, and the fashion industry’s move away from fur. For instance, the number of animals raised and killed for their fur dropped from about 140 million in 2014 to roughly 20 million today, a transformative shift by any measure.

Let’s hope factory farming is next but as Vox said, “perhaps the biggest animal welfare campaign success story of the 21st century.”
