Florida Dog Rings Doorbell to Return Home After Weeklong Disappearance

In Green Cove Springs, Florida, Athena, a 4-year-old German Shepherd and Husky mix, embarked on an unexpected adventure that left her family both anxious and amazed. On December 15, Athena managed to escape from her home under mysterious circumstances, leaving her owners, the Comer family, in a frantic search. Despite receiving numerous sightings and support from the community, Athena remained elusive, covering nearly 20 miles during her weeklong escapade.

The turning point came in the early hours of Christmas Eve. At 2:30 a.m., the Comers’ Ring doorbell camera captured Athena’s return as she rang the doorbell with her paws, eagerly awaiting to be let inside. The heartwarming footage shows Athena jumping at the door, signaling her desire to come home. Upon opening the door, the family was overjoyed to see their beloved pet safe and sound. Athena immediately sought out her favorite ball to play before settling back into her routine, as if she had never been away.

This remarkable incident highlights the strong bond between pets and their owners, as well as the resilience and intelligence of dogs like Athena. The Comers plan to take preventive measures to ensure Athena’s safety, including a full veterinary examination, flea and tick treatments, and microchipping. Their experience serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and the unexpected ways technology can reunite us with our furry family members.
