An Israeli study published in the prestigious journal Neurology examined the effect of medical cannabis therapy on children on the autistic spectrum.
The study, led by Dr. Adi Aran, director of the pediatric neurology unit at Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem, found that cannabis treatment with a high concentration of CBD (the non-psychoactive substance considered to have medicinal properties) improved the condition of 80% of the children in the study.
The role CBD oil plays to decrease the symptoms of autism is twofold. Firstly, CBD oil can help some children with autism alleviate behavioral symptoms of autism such as anxiety, aggression, self-injurious behaviors, and trouble with social interactions. Secondly, CBD oil can help children with co-occurring seizures.
There are so many positive impacts of CBD for conditions that aren’t easily remediated, many of which are the core symptoms of autism. But safety is still a concern.
