Minke and endangered fin whales can breathe a huge sigh of relief: Icelandic whalers have suspended commercial hunts this year.
An Icelandic whaling business, IP-Utgerd, has announced that it will stop whaling altogether, while the largest whaling company in the country, Hvalur hf., has halted its whaling operations for the second year in a row.
For conservationists, this interruption to whaling, however long it lasts, is welcome news. Let’s celebrate a win for the whales!.
