Goats as Natural ‘Lawnmowers’ for Wildfire Prevention in Colorado

Goats are often “hired” to eat dry vegetation, particularly in areas prone to wildfires, as they can effectively clear brush and invasive plants, essentially acting as natural “lawnmowers” to reduce fire fuel and mitigate wildfire risk by creating firebreaks in hard-to-reach terrains.

Unlike machinery, goats can easily navigate steep slopes and rocky areas, reaching vegetation that might be inaccessible otherwise.

Some of these amazing “firefighting” goats are working hard in Colorado to help clear brush designed to reduce the risk of wildfires.

South Metro Fire Rescue released video of the herd of 1,200 goats eating weeds on the Lockheed Martin campus.

The goats gobbled up the dry vegetation surrounding the aerospace company’s facilities this week. They were brought in by a company called Goat Green that specializes in using furry friends to get to places that machinery cannot.
